During my last placement, I was assigned twice to the hospital’s Outpatient Department with an RN.
Between blood collections, suturing, wound dressings, catheter bag replacements and ECGs, we somehow drifted into a very deep and philosophical conversation.
One topic was how we both sometimes felt a little out of place with some of our colleagues.
Naturally, we decided it must be…
our age.
She then told me that she had been a mature-age student.
I thought:
At last! Someone who understands me.
Then she added that when she studied nursing, she was in her early 30s while most of her classmates had come straight from high school.
So she felt really old.
Well…
how do you think that made me feel?

If early 30s is considered “mature age,” then where exactly does that leave someone in her 50s?
No wonder I feel like a unicorn during residential school.

At this rate, I might just make it into the Guinness World Records as the oldest RN graduate.
