I have to break up with my smartwatch for seven days.
I never knew it would be this hard.
I really enjoy getting my daily health updates, and I have to admit, the watch is very good at motivating me to push myself physically.
Well, you would too if your watch kept telling you that you were half your actual age because of your physical prowess.

Unfortunately, I think I may have taken the motivation a little too seriously.
My doctor told me to rest my heel for seven days because of Achilles tendinopathy.
Seven days???
How much will I age during seven days of inactivity?

Just by not running this morning, my predicted age had already gone from 23 yesterday to 27 today.
I aged four years in one day.

So Graeme suggested that perhaps I should take off the watch altogether — and take a break from both it and running.

The other problem is that I registered for both the road and trail races at the GBR Masters Games at the end of next month.
Which is probably another reason I overdid it.
I don’t expect to come first. Realistically, I have shorter legs than most of the other participants, I only started long-distance running three weeks ago, and there is the age factor as well.
But I have one very important goal:
I don’t want to be the reason the organisers and volunteers can’t pack up because they’re still waiting for me to finish.

Unfortunately, this also means that between now and the GBR Masters Games, I will have two weeks of enforced rest.
I’m having minor surgery on the 10th of May, which will require another week off.
Hmm…
It seems my sporting career may be coming to an end before it has even properly taken off.

We shall wait and see…
