Happy Easter!
Last month, I had the privilege of visiting the empty tomb of Jesus, just outside the Old City of Jerusalem.
As the guide at the Garden Tomb told us, there really isn’t much to see inside.
It’s empty.
And that is exactly the point.
We celebrate Easter every year as a public holiday, yet sometimes the meaning behind it gets buried beneath chocolate eggs, cute furry bunnies and everything else that has grown around the occasion.
There is nothing wrong with enjoying those things, but Easter began with something much bigger.
For Christians, the empty tomb represents the reason for the celebration: He has risen.
This Easter, I hope we can look beyond the chocolates and the long weekend for a moment and reflect on what this day has meant to people for more than two thousand years.
