What in the World Am I Doing Here?

Originally written October 1, 2022

I collected my race bib this morning and suddenly realised that this marathon business was serious. 🧐

There were hundreds of people everywhere.

Then I had to line up at the Marathon & Half Marathon bib collection.

That was when the intimidation really started.

I looked around at all these people who seemed athletic, confident and completely comfortable being there.

Meanwhile, I was standing there holding my bib thinking:

What in the world am I doing here? 😅

I actually felt embarrassed. I didn’t think I looked the part.

Perhaps I should have signed up for the 10K instead.

The race starts at 7am tomorrow, and because daylight saving starts overnight here in Victoria, my body will probably think it’s 6am. So I told Graeme that I wanted to find the start line today rather than attempt it tomorrow morning in the dark and cold.

Very sensible decision.

Except it took us almost two hours to find it. 😂

And apparently we weren’t the only ones having trouble.

Just imagine leaving it until race morning: a 45-minute walk from our accommodation, wandering around Melbourne in the dark, cold and half asleep, trying to find the start of a marathon I was already questioning my sanity for entering.

Anyway, I think I’m ready.

Well…

Physically, hopefully.

Mentally, questionable. 😂

At this point, what I really need is a miracle.

Please pray for me.
