When I signed up for the May 150K Challenge to raise funds for multiple sclerosis research, I knew I had to do my part.
So I walked. I ran. And apparently, I did both in the rain.
At the same time, I was training with the Summer Running Squad for a marathon, so I thought I might as well kill two birds with one stone. I wore my MS shirt loud and proud during training, hoping that somewhere along those kilometres it might also raise a little awareness.
My target was 150 kilometres for the month.
At one point I was at 67.29 km, with plenty still to go.

Fortunately, there was no shortage of photographic evidence.
Thank God for a husband I could drag out of bed very early in the morning just so somebody could take photos of me running.
Because obviously, if there is no photo, did the kilometre even happen?
By the end of May, I had completed the 150K challenge — plus a little extra — and my wonderful sponsors had helped me raise $747, well beyond my original $500 fundraising goal.

And then there was Raymond.
He had apparently volunteered to pay for additional kilometres, so after I ran an extra 2K, I felt it was only proper to remind him:
Prepare your $$$. You already owe me $2.
Thank you to everyone who donated, encouraged me and shared some of those kilometres with me. And thank you to Lorraine Lawson and Squad Lawson for making running considerably more enjoyable.
Running gives me plenty of medals, sore muscles and questionable purchases.
But every now and then, it can also do a little good.
And those are probably the kilometres worth remembering most.
