Stepparent/Carer of the Year… Not

Originally written in 2024

We came to look after Brad after his surgery — cook for him, drive him to his rehab appointments and generally make ourselves useful.

That was the plan.

Except Brad is quite happy doing the cooking, and Graeme seems perfectly fine doing the driving — despite repeatedly telling me how much he hates driving in Brisbane.

Which leaves me with… apparently nothing to do. 😂

So while the person we came to care for cooks, and the man who hates Brisbane driving drives, I’ve been sleeping in, having naps and generally being spoilt.

Somewhere in the middle of all this guilt-free laziness, I realised something:

I probably needed looking after too.

I can’t remember the last time I had several days where I wasn’t rushing somewhere, working, studying, running, organising something or looking after somebody.

Apparently, all it took was someone else having surgery for me to finally take a break. 😁

So for now, I’ll let the boys do all the work while I relax.

Stepparent/carer of the year?

Definitely not.

But I’m beginning to think this was a long-overdue holiday in disguise. 😊
