High Falls is definitely the most challenging hike I had done at that point — and also one of the most rewarding.
Calling it a “hike” might actually be a little generous.
There were steep descents, slippery granite, enormous boulders, narrow gaps, ropes, water crossings and places where getting from Point A to Point B required a small committee meeting.

Some sections were less about walking and more about finding whatever part of the landscape looked least likely to send you somewhere you didn’t intend to go.
But once we reached High Falls, all the effort suddenly made sense.
This is one of those hidden places in Far North Queensland that I probably would never have seen without people like Andy Hikes and a group of equally adventurous — or possibly equally questionable — people willing to go looking for it.

And that is probably one of the things I love most about these adventures.
The destination may be spectacular, but half the story is getting there.
Sometimes you need a rope.

Sometimes you need someone’s hand.
Sometimes you need to sit on your bottom and slide.

And occasionally you just need enough people around you who think the whole thing is a perfectly reasonable way to spend a day.
High Falls was hard.
But absolutely worth it.
